Our History
Community Hospice of Texas is an independent, community-owned health care provider with more than 30 years of combined experience. The organization was created in May 1996 by the merger of three Fort Worth based hospices -- Saint Joseph, Harris, and Huguley, with the support of Arlington Memorial Hospital. In January 1997, Community Hospice of Texas acquired Saint Paul Hospice in Dallas. In December 1997, Community Hospice of Texas opened the metroplex's first Hospice House, the Emery J. Lilge House at Huguley, which has the capacity to care for eight patients. In March 2003, a second in-patient facility, Community Hospice of Texas Hospice House Downtown, opened with the capacity to serve twelve patients. Community Hospice is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and has become the largest non-profit hospice in the state of Texas. We are licensed by the Texas Department of Human Services to provide hospice services and are a member of the Texas Non-Profit Hospice Alliance.
Community Hospice of Texas and our affiliates are accredited by the New York-based Community Health Accreditation Program, Inc. (CHAP). CHAP sets the highest standards for community and home-based health services and products. The CHAP seal of approval assures consumers that accredited programs have gone beyond the minimum quality levels and have met the industry's highest nationally recognized standards of excellence. Due to this recognition of quality service, the federal government recognizes CHAP accredited organizations as certified to provide care to Medicare patients.
