A Legacy of Giving

Rex King was a quiet, hardworking West Texas man who devoted his life to his family and community. A lifelong youth soccer coach, he influenced countless young athletes, not only through the game but by the example he set every day, putting others first and quietly doing what was right.

In 2019, what seemed like persistent back pain suddenly revealed something far more serious. Cancer had spread throughout his body, and within just three weeks of his diagnosis, Rex’s family was faced with saying goodbye.

Like many families, his children, Kaye Nazarko and Mike King, knew very little about hospice. Looking back, they wish they had called Community Healthcare of Texas sooner.

When Rex was admitted to Community Healthcare of Texas, his family discovered hospice was about much more than medical care.

The care team not only kept Rex comfortable, but also cared for those who loved him most. Nurses gently explained what to expect, answered difficult questions, and remained by the family’s side throughout every stage of Rex’s final days. After his death, Community Healthcare of Texas continued supporting the family through grief counseling and remembrance services.

For Kaye, hospice became a place of comfort, compassion, and understanding.

Inspired by the care their father received, Kaye and Mike looked for a meaningful way to honor his memory. They renamed a long-standing youth soccer tournament in Rex’s honor, raising funds to help Community Healthcare of Texas care for families facing circumstances like their own.

Rex’s legacy extends far beyond the soccer field. It lives on in every family that receives compassionate care, every volunteer inspired to give back, and every life touched by the kindness his family experienced when they needed it most.
