North Texas Students Lead by Example with Donations to Local Hospice
The Lewisville High School Student Council is collecting snacks for families visiting loved ones in hospice care with Community Healthcare of Texas, the state’s largest not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider.
Lewisville High School Student Council President, Faith Johnke, explained that serving the school and the community is part of leadership development. “Our students give back not for monetary compensation or gain but to help those in need. That is what a true leader is, and it’s a joy to give back,” said Johnke. “And the fact that Community Healthcare of Texas is a non-profit agency caring for kids and adults in our city made this snack drive even more meaningful to us.”
The donated snacks will stock the pantry at the Community Healthcare of Texas Hospice House in Burleson. “For many of our patients, we care for them in the comfort of their own home, but for some, who require additional support, we have created a home-like setting at our Hospice House,” said Viki Jingle, the organization’s Chief Executive Officer. “Having snacks readily available for the families visiting their loved ones is a simple gesture that makes a big difference.”
The Lewisville Student Council made the first delivery of donated snacks to the Hospice House last month. According to Johnke, the students continue to collect donations, and she hopes the snack drive for hospice is something the students make an annual tradition.
“I am grateful for everyone who donates to our organization,” said Jingle. “But, there is something incredibly inspiring for me when I see these students caring for our patient families in such a tangible way.”
