Hospice Patient and Lifelong Dallas Cowboys Fan Fulfills Dream with AT&T Stadium Tour
Larry, a Community Healthcare of Texas hospice patient and lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, fulfilled his dream last month with a behind-the-scenes tour of AT&T Stadium, home of his beloved Cowboys. The experience, part of the Cowboys’ Rally Days event on October 12th, allowed Larry to witness firsthand the inner workings of the stadium—a dream come true for the 80-year-old fan.
Accompanying Larry on this memorable outing was Don Tatlock, Spiritual Care Coordinator at Community Healthcare of Texas. Reflecting on their time together, Tatlock shared. “From my initial visit with Larry, he was very open in sharing that even though he was now on hospice care, he wanted to make the most of the days he had ahead,” Tatlock said. “He understood that choosing hospice care was not giving up on life, but choosing to live fully into his final days.”
Larry was first diagnosed with cancer in 2022. After treatments were no longer effective at slowing the progression of the disease, he made the decision in August to begin hospice care with Community Healthcare of Texas. His care team, which includes medical, spiritual, and emotional support, works together to ensure that Larry’s needs are met holistically.
“I take every day for what it is, live it to the fullest, and hope I get another one,” Larry shared, offering insight into his outlook on life. Reflecting on his day at AT&T Stadium, he added, “I’ve been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys since they played their first game in 1960. I’m so thankful to have had this experience while I’m still able.”
Community Healthcare of Texas, the state’s largest not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider, is dedicated to ensuring patients like Larry receive the best possible care while still pursuing the moments that bring joy and fulfillment.
