Community Healthcare of Texas Receives $15,000 Blue Impact Grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas to Support Compassionate Care Fund

Community Healthcare of Texas, the largest not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider in the state, announced today it has received a $15,000 Blue Impact grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX). This funding will support the organization’s Compassionate Care Fund, which provides hospice and palliative care services to uninsured and underinsured patients and their families.
Since 1996, Community Healthcare of Texas has provided expert and compassionate end-of-life care to patients across 22 counties in North Central Texas. Through the Compassionate Care Fund, the organization ensures that financial limitations never prevent patients from receiving the dignity, comfort, and support they deserve. Each year, more than $1.2 million in services – equivalent to 4,000 days of care – are provided to patients who otherwise could not afford them, including expert medical and nursing care, counseling, supplies and equipment, medications, and bereavement services.
“We are deeply grateful to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for their continued investment in compassionate care,” said Karen Derrick, Chief Philanthropy Officer at Community Healthcare of Texas. “Their generous support helps ensure that individuals facing the end of life – regardless of their ability to pay – receive the same high-quality care we’ve provided to our communities for nearly three decades. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to strengthening access to hospice and palliative care and supporting patients and families during life’s most challenging moments.”
BCBSTX has awarded more than $27 million in grants to community organizations statewide since 2011, touching the lives of millions of Texas children and families.
“At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, we recognize the importance social and economic factors have on health and wellness, and these grants help pave the way for healthier futures for children and families across Texas,” said Patty Escoe, Vice President of BCBSTX Plan Operations. “We recently celebrated 95 years of serving Texans. We remain committed to the belief that through contributing support and outreach, addressing health disparities, and striving for more equitable care, we will create a world in which we all thrive.”
