Our Story
Thirty years ago, leaders from Harris Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital (now Ascension Providence), and Huguley Hospital (now a Texas Health Resources partner) recognized a need. Families facing the end of life deserved compassionate, community-based hospice care, regardless of their circumstances.
On May 1, 1996, that shared vision became reality with the founding of Community Hospice of Texas in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and Providence Hospice in Waco. Together, they laid the foundation for what would become Community Healthcare of Texas—the largest not-for-profit hospice provider in Texas.
As the needs of North Central Texas evolved, so did the organization.
The Hospice House at Huguley opened in 1998 as the region’s first inpatient hospice house, followed by partnerships with area hospitals and the expansion of services into additional communities. Pediatric hospice care, now known as the Little Doves Pediatric Hospice Program, brought specialized care to children and families, while the addition of Palliative Care services in 2023 expanded support for patients living with serious illness.
In 2019, the organization united under one name—Community Healthcare of Texas—reflecting its commitment to caring for patients and families through every stage of serious illness.
While much has changed over the past three decades, one thing has remained constant: a commitment to providing compassionate care centered on dignity, comfort, and community.
Today, Community Healthcare of Texas serves patients and families across 22 counties in North Central Texas. Since 1996, the organization has cared for more than 80,000 patients and families and, through the generosity of donors, has provided more than $30 million in underinsured care.
Every milestone tells part of the story, but the true legacy is found in the lives touched along the way. It lives in every patient cared for, every family supported, every volunteer who gives their time, and every caregiver who answers the call to serve with compassion.
For 30 years, Community Healthcare of Texas has been more than a healthcare organization. It has been a trusted partner to families during life’s most meaningful moments—and that legacy continues every day.
