Dr. David Capper Named Chief Medical Officer for Community Healthcare of Texas
FORT WORTH, TX, January 11, 2023 – Community Healthcare of Texas, the state’s largest nonprofit end-of-life care provider, recently named hospice and palliative care veteran Dr. David Capper as its new Chief Medical Officer. Over the past several months, Dr. Capper has worked closely with Dr. Karen Godfrey, who retired on December 31, 2022, after 13 years with the organization.
In his role, Dr. Capper will oversee the overall effectiveness, leadership, strategic direction, structure, and management of the medical components of pediatric and adult hospice care at Community Healthcare of Texas. He will partner with members of the hospice interdisciplinary team to develop personalized care plans for patients, ensuring every patient and their family receive the highest quality end-of-life care. Additionally, he will provide education to community physicians and others engaged in the care of patients facing a serious or life-limiting illness.

Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care, Dr. Capper has held numerous positions over his 35 years in healthcare. Prior to joining Community Healthcare of Texas, Dr. Capper founded Covenant Hospice in 1999, where he was the Executive Vice President and Medical Director until 2019. Most recently, he served as Medical Director of Palliative Care at JPS Health Network in Fort Worth.

Dr. Capper earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his residency at Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. He went on to serve as chief resident at St. Vincent Hospital, also in Portland.
