Building a Legacy of Compassion

Long before Community Healthcare of Texas cared for patients and families across North Central Texas, Howard McMahan helped make it possible.

A respected civic leader and healthcare executive, Howard was instrumental in bringing together several hospitals to create what would become Community Healthcare of Texas. As the organization’s founding Board Chair, he spent nearly a decade helping establish a nonprofit hospice dedicated to providing compassionate, community-based care for generations to come.

His vision helped lay the foundation for an organization that has served thousands of patients and families over the past 30 years.

Years later, that mission became deeply personal.

As Howard’s health declined, Community Healthcare of Texas had the privilege of caring for him during the final months of his life. The organization he helped build came alongside Howard and his family with the same compassion, dignity, and support that he had hoped every family would one day receive.

For his wife, Myrtle, the experience reinforced her belief in the organization’s mission and the importance of ensuring others receive the same exceptional care.

Since 2014, Myrtle has faithfully volunteered with Community Healthcare of Texas, supporting the Fort Worth office with administrative projects and serving on the organization’s Advisory Council. Her quiet dedication reflects the same spirit of service that Howard brought to the organization’s earliest days.

Together, Howard and Myrtle have left a lasting mark on Community Healthcare of Texas—one through visionary leadership and the other through years of faithful volunteer service.

Their story reminds us that the strongest organizations are built not only by compassionate professionals, but also by people whose generosity, leadership, and commitment continue to shape lives for generations to come.
