Community Healthcare of Texas Supports CMS Hospice Moratorium
Community Healthcare of Texas, the largest nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider in Texas, applauds the recent decision by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to implement a temporary six-month nationwide moratorium on new hospice provider enrollments in Medicare as part of ongoing efforts to combat fraud and abuse within the hospice industry.
The moratorium applies only to new hospice provider enrollments and will not impact care for patients currently receiving hospice services through Medicare.
“For over thirty years, Community Healthcare of Texas has stood beside patients and families during some of life’s most vulnerable and sacred moments,” said Viki Jingle, CEO of Community Healthcare of Texas. “We support efforts that protect the integrity of the Medicare hospice benefit and ensure patients receive the compassionate, ethical, high-quality care they deserve.”
Nonprofit hospice leaders across Texas and the nation have expressed growing concerns about fraudulent operators exploiting oversight gaps for financial gain, endangering vulnerable patients, and undermining public trust in hospice care.
Community Healthcare of Texas has been actively engaged in advocacy efforts to address these concerns, including ongoing conversations with U.S. Representative Beth Van Duyne (R-TX-24), who has emerged as a leading bipartisan advocate for stronger hospice oversight and patient protections.
As a member of The Non-Profit Hospice Alliance and the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation, Community Healthcare of Texas joins nonprofit hospice providers statewide and nationally in advocating for greater accountability, transparency, and ethical standards in hospice care.
Community Healthcare of Texas supports continued efforts by CMS and lawmakers to identify and remove bad actors already operating within the system while preserving access to trusted community-based hospice providers with longstanding commitments to patient-centered care.
